Do you know what a “Hyper Local Blog” is? Have you heard the term “Citizen Journalism?” Well, as far as I am concerned, this is one of the purest forms of blogging, and also one of the best ways to earn a living on the net. I call it “Grass Roots Internet Markeing,” and I am going to introduce you to someone who is an expert at it. Watch the vid and have a beer with me…
I promised you some links so you could learn more so here goes.

I mentioned that Steve also made up a cool intro for my blog. I will get that posted later this week once I get some info about my video editing software that seems to be not working. (long story)

Allyn, This is one of the best videos I have seen from you. I have never heard of hyper local blogging either and it seems quite interesting and maybe something I could incorporate into my “online business plan” and maybe see if I could get my brother, dad, or a friend interested in helping me out with it.
Thanks for the tips and I’ll be adding steve’s blogs to my reading reading list.
This is interesting, I think the potential here is pretty big….One obstacle I see with this is that alot of the content would need to be collected offline. This could be tricky if you are still in full time work at the same time. I have thought this type of site would help me promote my local photography business, especially with sports photograpy.
@Eric,
yep, getting your friends and family to be your “staff writers” would be a great way to keep the site fresh and relevant. It really is your own “newspaper” of sorts and that is pretty cool.
@Joe
I totally agree that for a part timer it would be tough. Steve is a full timer and has the knowledge and ability to get into his community and cover it like a roving reporter. Really cool.
As far as your photog biz, you could do a hyper local blog with 99% photos from the community. Trust me, most people would never read the content anyway but would stick on your site for a long time if themselves or someone they knew had their photo published.
This is Steve Sherron, the subject of your latest video Allyn, and I am totally blown away and humbled by this video you made highlighting me and my efforts at hyperlocal blogging in my hometown. To say I was speechless when I saw it, would be an understatement. I just showed it to my wife and I think she wet her pants a little. This is a very public “Thankyou” for this. You will never know what it means to me.
I have been a huge fan of Blogger Illustrated since I found you. I do not follow too many bloggers, especially make money bloggers because I think they are mostly full of crap. I proudly mention you and Griz in the same sentence because I believe in you. You were and are different. Your videos showed a side of you that I really enjoyed watching. Your willingness to share what you have learned is extremely helpful. I have watched and applied what I learn from you.
Your readers are probably wondering about the video intro I made for you. I love video and love to create. I have not told you this but I heard a new song and because I’m a reader, I said to myself, “That’s got Allyn written all over it”. I had a concept in my head and created it on video. I did it simply as an appreciation for your work.
I think your future as a video blogger is huge. You are every bit as talented on camera as Gary Vaynerchuck and I do believe that you will be discovered and followed by the masses. Please remember me. What you just did for me is evidence of your character and how you treat others. My friend, you are destined for greatness and I hope that I can do my little part to help. For anyone just finding you, go to the first entry in the archives and start from there. After about 3 videos you will begin to understand what this man is about and you will become a fan.
I would ask your readers to spread the word about you on Twitter and all social media. I wish you continued success and as always, I can’t wait for your next video. Cheers brother, a chilled Blue Moon to you!
@steve, I found Allyn on griz’s site and have watched every post. Video blogging is definately where its at and Allyn is ahead with that now. Only problem is that I am always waiting impaticently for his next post!
good stuff.
Joe
Wow- this is great! Thanks, Allyn.
*I hadn’t planned on it*, but recently saw a domain name ideal for a local blog, and purchased it.
It will be an interesting challenge, as it looks like the name previously lived in a pretty sultry bad neighborhood.
Nice to know about Steve’s blogs!
Sorry, a bit off topic: the audio on your vid is tinny and I think it would be vastly improved if you had a mic closer to you. Like when you get near the laptop it sounds a lot better.
@Juice
Yeah, I know my vids are a little “non-pro” but for now, I like it that way. If you need a great deal on a set of speakers, there is a guy at the corner gas station near my house that sells speakers from the back of a van, LOL
@Palmetto
I have never owned a formerly bad neighborhood domain. I think the challenge will be fun for you
@Joe
flattering will get you anything you want, including a free beer, LOL
@Steve
You rock dude. I am still working with SOny tech support to get my vids working right. they have been pretty helpful so far.
Allyn how far away is this beer blog by the way?
@Joe,
beer blog is in the works. I just need to tweak the template a little and I am not very good with that. If you know someone who is good with graphic stuff (like shifting colors, shades and background image) in WP blogs, ping me with their info.
thanks!

@joe. I feel the same way. I always look forward to videos from Allyn. My wife chose Allyn over Sean Hannity. When I was putting together the video intro for Allyn, my wife asked what I was doing.I showed her the intro and then went to Allyn’s site so she could see who I was doing it for. We happened to be watching Hannity at the time. I clicked the play button and started one of Allyn’s videos. A little ways through it, I clicked another video. It played for a few moments and not wanting to take her away from what she was doing, I clicked the pause button and said, that’s the guy I’m doing this for. She jumped me and said leave it playing, I like it. She made me hit the mute button on the TV and we watched several of Allyn’s videos. Not sure if it was the subject matter or if she thought he was hot but she became a fan too.
Wow, you guys are really piling it on thick right now! LOL
Steve, I don’t think you are in any danger of from me and my “hottness” factor considering the size of your guns in the Monroe Scoop shirt on your blog, LOL
NEW vid coming tonight. I have so many exciting things to share..so little time.

Hello all!
We recently started a hyperblog at http://gorenjski.com for Gorenjska, which is one of the regions in country called Slovenia, and the information on Steve Sherron’s site is really helping us make a progress! So thank you Steve!
I have found Blogger Illustrated through Steve as well, just havent had a time to go through all the blog posts yet.
Besides that, if any of you people need help with Wordpress customatization/tweaking/plugins, feel free to send me a direct message through Twitter@mijagi .
Have fun! Denis
Allyn,
Thanks so much for introducing me to Steve. His blog on creating local blogs rocks. I got started local blogging in Jan of 2008 because of Vic and Steve really brings it home as to what can be done. Too bad I do not do video blogging like you guys, but I make do.
You two guys have me excited about local blogging again and its possibilities. I sort of put my local blog on the back burner this year and now I see the need to resurrect it.
Thanks again!
Hi Denise!
Yeah, you are right on the money with Steve. He is a truly passionate blogger in his community and has staked a solid claim in the real community and internet community there. He fires me up everytime he posts. I always thought of local blogs in the “niche” sense but he looks at them in the “involvement” sense and that is what comes across for me.
