Just a short one here on the fact that it seems that people on the net who are truly “in the know” have this resentment towards those of us “newer guys” who are working on making a living online. It’s like they think we are coming on to their territory and ruining the pasture lands. They also assume that some of us who have fast success must be doing something black hat or shady. Could it be that we are just a little smart and a little lucky? Could it be that we just work hard? eh??? But these elitists still look down on us.
I actually had a guy who is a true IT professional criticize my methods and tell me to “get off the internet.” (I will admit I provoked him, but still).
Since I served in the USAF for four years, do I have a right to tell that same elite internet marketer to “get the hell outta my USA?” Watch the vid and tell me if you have noticed the same thing or not.
Good thing I found Vic and Griz. They are wildly successful online, are “old school,” and NOT elitist! I know you guys agree.

I think Vic says it best – karma is a bitch. Instead of trying to put people down and make them feel like they aren’t worthy, we should treat everyone as an equal. That’s the problem with society, we judge people too often on their status, career, other materialistic things when we should be looking at their personality and character.
My major is computer engineering, and I feel that elitism exists there. But the funny thing is that because of a project we worked on, we were able to attend DEFCON (annual hackers conferece in Las Vegas) – The one thing you take away from that environment is that everyone is there to help everyone else, and people realize that everyone has different interests and they respect that. I think this is because the people there are all about that ‘underground society’. It may get a bad rap, but they are way more willing to accept people for who they are.
There are lots of ethical hackers, too – I believe the term ‘hacker’ gets a bad rap, because we consider a hacker to be anyone who modifies a piece of hardware or software for something it wasn’t intended for…. the key is the alteration is not malicious, those are the bad guys, lol.
ohh, and it’s funny you mention the drone IT guys, lol…. that’s part of the reason I’d like to pursue IM instead of Comp Eng when I finish – when I look ahead 10 years, I see myself as a drone if I pursue the regular 9-6 route, and I hate that!
I’m just not that kind of guy, I need spontaneity, freedom, but most important I want to have the time to do the things I love. And one thing I’m pretty certain of is that I got this far into engineering for the money, not because I have a real passion for it. Now I also don’t think I love IM, but I think I do love the thrill of finding markets you can compete, and love the idea of making a passive income on my terms, whenever and wherever I want.
Man, I can’t wait til summer when I can really get the ball rolling on this…
Hi there Allyn,
I must say, we are from different generations but you and I share a lot in common. In some ways I guess I am worse or better than you, according to how you want to look at it, at going my way and telling others to either be with me or against me, “But don’t get in my way with your better-than-thou-BS.” That is the long way of saying I’m like you in that I pretty much call um as I see um.
I think you are right on target with your points in this video. Of course, the whole online marketing world is full of scam artists; some of whom are highly successful because they were there “firstest with the mostest.” And some of these may not even know they are scamming people because they are so taken with their way of doing things they haven’t noticed that their way is no longer productive for newcomers.
Yeah, I like your approach, and since I am still stumbling around out here, I’ll probably come back to you and ask for some pointers on blog set up. That is the main hump I am having trouble overcoming. This old dog is used to learning new tricks; I have never taken a day off from learning, but somehow the how-to of setting up a decent; decent,not fancy, blog platform remains somewhat of a mystery to me.
Maybe I have reached the stupid age, but I will not give up, by gummy. I’m g’wan to do ‘er or die trying.
Keep it up, ole boy.
Cheers,
Lawrence
I’m still pretty hurt that people some fans of SBI think I can’t spell and that I don’t recognise a saint when I meet him LOL! You pick a fight Allyn – no kidding bad,bad blogger! You have definitly been hanging with the wrong crowd recently.
I’m lucky I really don’t care what people think of me – in person or on the internet -I mean the proof is in the cheque at the end of the month really!
Get off the internet is a good one though LOL
P.S. I am a real IT professional – well ex Business Analyst and Project Manager not a code jockey or network geek and I say you are welcome to stay on the internet. Making money online has very little with technical skills and all about marketing …
@Lis
thanks for inviting me to stay in the online world! LOL
@Lawrence
Hey man, I really appreciate your comment. As far as setting up a blog, do you now how to use Fantastico in side of CPanel?
That’s a onestep set up for blogs.
I think the biggest hurdle for me was learning how to transfer the plugins and themes into the right place and activate them.
I understand how you feel about setting up a site: it’s like this unknown “thing” and it seems super complicated and insurmountable.
If I can be of any help to you, please email me. We could set up a time to talk on the phone and I could walk you through step by step setting up a blog.
let me know,
AL
Thanks, Al.
I’ve learned to handle Fantastico. The hurdles I have yet to jump are some of the finer points. I will keep fiddling with them for a while yet. If I am still at a loss, I’ll take you up on your offer of assistance, although Skype or email, rather than telephone direct, would be to the way for us to talk due to the great distances and bad phone service here.
I am in the Philippines for a few more months before I come back to the land of the more or less free and the home of the remaining brave.

“Get Off My Internet” is just something people say to piss other people off. If you get pissed he wins so don’t. Great video.
I agree with you 100 percent. Last year I made a video and posted it on my blog titled “How I Went From 600 to 14 On Google in 100 Days”. It was basically a summary of what I did to move a site up and why I did it myself instead of hiring someone. The video was picked up by WebProNews.com and I was contacted by them for an interview. My interview was then included in a online interview with John Chow and Aaron Wall. Instantly I received mega traffic but with that came a lot of negative emails from people who have been in the SEO business for a long time. I was told I was lucky and that I couldn’t repeat it and that it wouldn’t last, blah blah blah. Almost all of the positive comments were from newer people in the SEO world like myself.
Well that website is now at 5 on Goolge for last 6 months and my other sites are all ranking well using same techniques I spoke about in video.
I say all this to agree with you. Some of the top bloggers out there have become very full of themselves. There are several good ones that share good freely and I think that really pisses off the old timers.
Great post………….. eric
I have been told to get off an investment forum since I was making money and annoyed people that were penniless and unable to afford the $10 a month live price feed. So I did do one last post to piss them off and left the losers behind. I never got told to leave the Internet though, that is harsh! LOL
I think it can be intimidating to post on some sites such as the Warrior forum where you do find the Elitist crowd that are exploiting newbies for a living with endless eBooks and marketing training courses. So if you start a new thread with some tips, you can get the veteran posters trying to outdo you and make you feel bad.
There are definitely groups of bloggers and online people who consider themselves “elite” and act like a bunch of donkeys accordingly. Then there are guys like Grizz, Vic, and I’d add Justin to that group. Good guys who will really help you out, but have no problem being very direct when someone is screwing up. That’s the best type of help there. You are right, though, there are definitely the elitists out there. Thank for the great encouraging posts, and keep it up!
@Ray D
You are like me in some areas. I am currently studying a Degree In Electronics and working my a** off from paycheck to paycheck. Engineering to me, is not based on interest but due to money. Guess what, I am completing my degree at end of May this year and I also can’t wait to start my online empire going and make tons of money and using it to do things that I like to do! We can do it all together!
@Allyn
I found your blog via Vic’s Bloggerunleashed blog. I had been learning IM for like almost 2 years and results is not much but there is some results thou. I will be going in full force in less than 2 mths time and make a point in my life!
God Bless You All!
@Houston23 “Engineering to me, is not based on interest but due to money.” Electronics was my passion and a basis of my career in industry where we built and invented things rather than printing money. Very satisfying to produce things rather than rip people off such as in the banking industry.
Making money online via offering things of value is good though, be it education, services or quality products.
