Looking at Site Buildit for your internet business? Don’t!!!!!!!!!!!!! Video follows…

Site Buildit is not a scam, just bullshit… There is a big sh*t storm going around the blogosphere right now. It is around the “Site BuildIt Scam” and if it is just that or not. My good friend, Lissie, from make passive income online started this thing. She wrote an article about the Site Build It Scam a few days ago. She was just giving her honest opinion to the readers of her blog (and I totally respect that)…but soon enough … some of the Site Buildit ass-hats started attacking her. So, of course, her friends (including me in this video) had to back her up.

What I think Of Site Buildit…

Site Buildit is a lot of things. It is a quick set-up-a-website-for-a-fee (like $300 fee) type “system” that claims to make things easier for internet marketing newbies to get started making some cash on line. They even have a quote in one of their promo vids that “you don’t need any computer knowledge” in order to get started making money with Site Buildit… and THAT is the part that strikes a cord with me! Hey ass-hat Site Buildit drones: are you freaking kidding or what?

Guys, if you are going to start a business on the internet, I certainly hope you have some (or a lot) of computer knowledge! (do you know what “shut down” means?) In true fact, you need to look at internet marketing as a CRAFT that you continually learn about and GROW with! (Sheesh, are you kidding me you site buildit bull-shitters? You should burn in the pits of Hades for making our business seem so ’simple’//scammers!) This business of internet marketing IS NOT simple and it IS NOT easy. It takes knowledge and skill… a lot of it!

Honestly guys, if you want to start a “website business in a box” type thing… go start a bunch of Squidoo lenses and Blogger blogs! Those are freaking free and really easy! But if you really want to know how to make money online with internet marketing, you need to know the “ins” and “outs” of the search engines and also have intimate knowledge of HTML and code and hosting and link structure and permalinks, tags, CSS, etc. If anyone tells you anything else, they are bull-shitting you! Thank God that Vic, my mentor, is 100% brutally honest with this stuff!

Ok, so since the making of this video (over 170 comments too) I have had literally hundreds of people email me and ask “ok smarty, so then how to you make money online if you claim Site Build It is a scam?”

Until now, I would refer them to Vic, Court and Griz.. but the problem there was that most folks DO NOT have the patience to wade through hundreds of pages of content on 3 websites. In addition to that, because some of the stuff we do is a little tricky, it is often tough to comprehend it on a blog post. But now I have found a book that actually spells out clearly and step by step the EXACT methods that I have been taught by my mentors over the last couple years. Court has a training program that starts with the very very basics and moves into more of the advances ways we make money online. There is also extremely valuable software inside for keyword research and also a guest posting system where you can get solid, anchored links. Click Here and Sign Up.

Ken Evoy owes me over $300.

    I have a sitesell website.

I also have sold a few Site Build It software packages for $299.

    I make $75 commission.

They have been holding my commission amounting to over $100 for several months. When I asked why I hadn’t been paid, they said I wouldn’t be paid until I made another sale that wasn’t a repeat sale. They have the most byzantine accounrting system ever invented.

Well, in February 2010, I made two sales that were not repeat sales. I got the usual congratulation email from Ken Evoy. I thought, great, I will finally get what is owed me.

In March, much to my chagrin, nothing arrived in March.

I made another sale in March 2010 and got another email from Ken Evoy offering “congratulation, another sale.”

So, now I estimate Ken Evoy owes me over $300.

There should be law against this kind of fraud.

well I must say you got away “cheap” Ken e-CON took me for about $5000 USD in affiliate commissions a couple of years ago – I was cranking and had made good money with him, getting checks in the thousands and even got at least one phone call from him and we talked for some time, he even quoted how I was doing on some site (can’t remember which one right now) and I am even the proud owner of a pewter key chain and turtle sitting at at computer as gifts for having done so well – then he stopped – being in Canada and I being in the US had zero chances of getting any of my money – he is a real loser! and SBI the system, wow – what a waste of money -

I am definitely not new to computers as I have been a software engineer for a few years and also a network security specialist where I work for the past year. However, in my spare time I love to learn and lately it has been online marketing… I find it fascinating and I think I have the capability to really make an impact with the community if I am persistent enough.

However, the reason for this comment is this: I don’t know you that well, Allyn, but so far you’ve been nothing but making me laugh (not an insult). Your content is awesome. Your knowledge is so helpful. And your videos.. wow.. You should be on the news because I would definitely watch it then :)

Thank you for this an all other posts. This post (and video) will _definitely_ help out internet newcomers (I smelled SBI’s bullshit a mile away LOL).

BUYER BEWARE . . . BUYER BEWARE; I wanted to try Site Build It out, so I went with the monthly payment thing to see how and what it was. IT WAS TERRIBLE!!! CONFUSING!!!! USER-FRIENDLESS!!!! And, NON-SUPPORTIVE. They divide their learning sections into “DAYS” . . . supposedly for a “ten day process.” These days can turn into weeks . . . depending on your time. By day TWO I was beginning to wonder what in the world they were talking about [when I am a poet, writer, composer, musician, inventor and wanted to sell my own products] and they were talking about “nitches.” I had a terrible time following their very poorly presented video presentation. I would watch parts over and over and WONDER what in the . . . ? I think most people with the slightest bit of intelligence could have approached the design of the training methods of SBI–or writing procedures—better than they chose to present it. And, it appers that they aren’t too keen on suggestions.

Then, “SUPPORT????” What support? They have—evidently—a few poorly trained SBI’ers sitting in as a support team; but, if any customer [who has already paid their money] shows even the least bit of frustration . . . they won’t write you back at all [at least they haven't me]. I don’t know how they handle their support, but one gal—supposedly a support person [as she was answering my support email questions]—told me that she was too busy with her own sites to be too involved with mine, and then referred me to Ken Envoy . . . who I don’t know if he ever answered any of my email questions personally. Not much caring and sincere interest in my problems expressed. SOOOO VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!

In any case, I am soooooo thankful that I only signed up for the monthly payment plan . . . it only took me two months to see it was a very terrible waste of my time. Now they can’t deduct another month’s payment because I changed my debit card. PLEASE . . . PLEASE reader . . . DO NOT . . . I repeat “DO NOT” PAY THE FULL SUM FOR THIS SOFTWARE!!!! If you are one of those who MUST try it—no matter what others my say—at least choose the monthly payment plan, at least you will only lose $29 per month . . . until you, too, SEE that it is a good concept, but a very, very, very poorly written and confusingly presented approach to building a website. I am not sure what I am going to do now, as I have tried others too . . . but, I guess I will have to keep on a keepin’ on trying to get a website constructed.

I am an idiot – I paid for a full year. So did one of my relatives. Our subscriptions are already up, and we have no sites there because it was too difficult to go down all the little tangents that SBI threw at us in their “10 Day Process”. We live, we learn… sometimes learning is expensive, LOL!!! :)

  5. Ex-SBI Dummy says:

Rish & Lynn, You hit the nail on the head. SBI is worse than a scam , it’s a freakin cult. And if you say anything in the forums that is negative, you get bashed and insulted, then if you go back because you need to ask a question, forget it, your blackballed. They led me and several others to beleive that you can run a full ecommerce site with them. Well you can’t and by the time you figure it out, it’s too late, your stuck for a year (this was before the month to month). Once your locked in and ready to start your store, they tell you that you need to get a shopping car tthrough another host and then link the two. So essentially your getting a really expensive, really ugly blog. Several people complained on the forums about being misled by SBI, then you would get bashed and the comments deleted from the forum. Some of the forum moderators would litterally talk down to newbies and anybody else that challenged them, one woman in particular on there was really rude to people, Ive seen her comment here. If you need support, you get a bunch of idiots that spout written policy by Ken, never a real opinion or honest help. Forget about calling for support, they charge you $20 just to call.

You will not get a professional looking website, you get a dated ugly 2 column peice of crap. . They recently upgraded their system, still crap, and instead of getting a real designer to update their templates, they hold a contest for site owners to design them. There were a couple nice ones but they were all still very amatuer. Ken was so cheap that he had a few site owners that are knowledgeable with code and design, edit and get the templates ready for release, but didnt pay them. When people began complaining because they were ready for an undated look to their site, the free help would let them know how sorry they were it wasnt ready but they were doing this in their free time for no pay. I fel t really bad for that person, but then I couldn’t understand why they would do that in the first place. I hope they at least got a year or two free subscription.

Put it this way, I didn’t walk away from SBI, I RAN!!! It was not a good experience. If you are thinking of signing up with SBI, think twice. Every peice of info they give you, you can get somewhere else for free. Most of the blathering info you are given is extremly repeatative, they just keep saying the same thing over and over and over. CTPM, slow and steady, be the turtle. I dont want to be a F**K**G Turtle, I wanted what I was lead to beleive was possible with SBI.

Everything Rish said is 100% true, not one exageration. I have a real site now, it’s beautiful and doing better than my Site Crap It ever did. I now know better and if the info on this site helps even one person avoid the SBI Cult, I will be a very very happy person.

Lynn you are not an idiot, nor am I, we were misled by greedy Ken and his cult. Life goes on and we are all better off not being associated. I for one feel like a ton of bricks has been lifted from my shoulders, I was so embarressed by my SBI site, I didnt even tell my friends or family to check it out.

So in closeing, SBI is Bull***t, it is not a good site building platform, it sucks. Please do not give them your hard earned money.

    Best of Luck

  6. Daren says:

I was with SBi for just under a month, so i did get my full refund.

It is a total waste of time to pay for it. If you want to see what the “process” is, you can study their Action Guide and all the videos without signing up. Its all on their public site – no login required. If you are a complete newbie to the www, you’ll learn a bit.

But its just one big squeeze to get you to sign up with them. This was my first attempt at building a serious e-business. What a let down it was. Their site building tools are USELESS. They say you get the option of uploading your own HTML, but check this out.

    NO FTP
EVERY IMAGE AND EVERY FILE ON EVERY PAGE HAS TO BE UPLOADED SEPERATELY!!!!

Its completely pathetic. And the comments about being slagged off on their forums are true. Its just like a cult in that respect. Any dissension from Ken Evoy’s Gospel is frowned on.

They constantly tell you you will fail if you go to another host!!! What complete crap. When I displayed the SERP for some weird “niche” one of them had – Doggy e-cards – and showed other non-sbi hosted sites ranking higher, there was uproar. Ken Evoy intervened in the thread, and shut me down!

The guy preys on internet ignorance. He doesn’t tell you what a crap system it is to upload your files. I had used a few free hosts prior to this just mucking about with Komposer and didn;t find it difficult at all.

But I repeat – with SBi you can’t upload your site in the normal way. You can only upload one page at a time and it gets worse. Every single image file has to be uploaded in a 4 step process. And then every single CSS file and every jscript etc etc. You can’t just build a page in Dreamweaver and let the server take it.

This is what happened to me when I tried it – http://mmafightinginfo.yolasite.com/test.php (This is a free yola site that I used to show the SBi forum the problems I was having.)

STEER CLEAR OF SBI!!! It is dysfunctional. At best you will get a completely crap looking site using their templates. The biggest con in the system is that if you want any thing that a normal host can give you like php etc, they have a plug in that lets hyou host via another host e.g Bluehost, but still get you paying $299 a year for them.

And that $299 a year only gets you ONE DOMAIN!!!!!!!

So you can see, SBi will mainly work with folks that are internet ignorant. This is why Ken Evoy tells SBi people to put “the SBi blinkers” on and discourages reading anything other than the complete crap he pukes up.

The guy is very subtle. Just get online and start learning how to get a host, how to install wordpress, a bit of HTML etc. I’ve learnt enough in a month to get by now. I learnt most of it by searching on Youtube. Some great tutorials there on all aspects of webmastering. Don’t get f*cked in the arse by evil Evoy.

    Hi everyone,
THANKYOU. I have been feeling like a dumb-bo because I don’t have the time/intelligence to get any results with a sitesell site i did for a friend. I love the idea of it all but I’m no programmer and I think that’s what you need to be to get it to work.
Problem is I really want all the stuff they provide like C2 and newsletters, stats etc. (and page ranking of course).
How do I set that up without being a net guru? Does anyone know a good web person who can set me up with a similiar package that I can update and make alterations too?
I have a cartoon community type website for kids I’d love to do but I don’t know which way to try.
If I can afford the set-up of a dreamweaver could that include plug-ins that do similiar jobs? One that I can edit and up date myself.
I’ve set up a site before (vebiz.com.au) with a sitebuilder that seems to work OK but their are no appropriate templates and they’re not really designed to create a community.
I was thinking of trying sitesell again but reading this great thread has confirmed my intuition that it’s not quiet right. Somthing dodgy about it.
Problem is what’s the alternative for someone like me who isn’t that net savvy?
    Thanks for helping,
    Lis

Hey guys, SBI’s 10 day process clearly states that it doesn’t exactly go by the “24 hour” day. Over and over again they say it’s not get rich quick, their mascot is the tortoise, and they continually say you need BAM, brain attitude and motivation. I am an SBIer and a very happy one indeed, their support is Excellent, when they say they will call back in an hour, they do! Their always email me back. I took the Elearning Class they have and that too was excellent. It IS ALOT to learn and take in especially when we have preconcieved Ideas in our heads such as ” I want to sell my products, what the heck is a Niche?” The niche is basically a Themed Topic for Example ” Drumming” your products that you could see on that could be ” Homemade drummers wrist weights” or whatever model of monetization you choose to use. Sbi Is a GREAT tool for an online business, honestly! It is just a whole LOT of TIME and Effort Brain and Motivation. But it is seriously honestly Excellent. If you follow the Action Guide and Don’t Give up, you’ll win! Cheers!

  9. Been There Done That says:

You will not find it to your liking if you want an e-commerce site. If you have physical products, not an ebook, not 4 or 5 products you made in your garage, an actual product line that you need peope to trust, then SBI will not be the right platform for you. It in noway shape or form is going to work as an ecommerce site, I dont care if you memorized the action guide. And if you dont have any web design knowledge, then you better learn cause the templates are not very good, even the new ones they got the SBI’ers to make for them still look weak. There were a few submitted for there template contest that look beautiful, but they only chose the average looking ones, so don’t go in there expecting to have a great looking professional site unless you are able to make it yourself, cause you just wont get it there.

Foe someone that is jusst looking to get out some info and your completely oblivious and have no idea were to even start and you are to don’t have time to do the research to figure it out, then SBI is a good place to start.

    Best of Luck

  10. Laura says:

Hey “been there done that” ( for reference sake),
What happened to you that didn’t work? Like what were you trying to sell, and how far did you go with SBI before realizing that it wasn’t working for you? This one guy from http://www.jugglenow.com/ sells juggling balls and is making great money from it.
    Laura

  11. Been There Done That says:

    @Laura
Like I said, E-Commerce store, http://www.jugglenow.com/ site is linked to a yahoo E-commerce store as well as a few products on his SBI site. But his SBI is not an ecommerce store. When you have an actual product line that requires you to place over a hundred products on your website then SBI is not what you need. You will spend all your time building tables and optimizing images, creating hundreds of yahoo add to cart buttons and so on and so on. If you have an established business you can not wait 6 months plus to get your site online, in retail, it doesnt work that way. Jugglenow did not start as a RETAIL business, he didnt add products til later and when he did, he had to pay for an ecommerce site called Yahoo Stores! So like I said if you want or need an ecommerce store, then SBI will not work for you.

I also said if you are just starting out online and have NO physical inventory, have no IDEA where to start or dont have the time to do the research on your own, then you will learn from SBI. But dont expect going in that you will have a site that looks anything even close to what jugglenows site looks like, yeah they are getting new templates, but are those available to the blockbuilder yet? They didnt have them in April and they were no where near having that available to the folks that dont know how to build a website. The tech guys in the forum, that fixed all those templete submissions for Ken, didnt even get paid for it. All the money Ken makes from these guys and the poor guys is telling people in the forums to be patient for the new templetes, he is going as fast as he can and he is doing it for free. He was sick as a dog too. You have a whole community BEGGING for better looking templetes, that to me was the breaking point. All these people are in desperate need for a asteticlly appealing website but then turn around and say, Its the Content that matters not what your site looks like. What? Are you serious? Come on, everything on line tells you that your site needs to look good too. The big clue here is, you dont get to see the templetes before you sign up for SBI, you see live site examples that are created by SBI’ers that know design, or have had it built for them by a pro or paid SBI more money to do it for them. Alot of the successful SBI’ers also have more than one SBI website, they have several because there income depends on ad revenue, not product revenue. Sure there are some with products that are successful, but they had to pay for an ecommerce site and link it to there sbi site.

The fact is, there are alot of ecommerce builders/hosts out there that have all the same bells and whistles as SBI and they are not as expensive and best of all they look great, they’re fully customizable, even for the not so technically inclined. But what really pissed me off about SBI is they bost about how you can have this great ecommerce store, they even compare themselves to Yahoo Stores, yet once your locked in, you find out you CANNOT have an ecommerce store.

If you go to the hard goods forum and you look through the posts, you’ll find people really upset about that. I have had posts deleted because they didn’t want newbies to figure out too soon that they couldn’t have a store, the one they were led to beleive they can have.

If you have an relativly untapped niche idea and you want to start in info site, you can do it for alot less than SBI offers. The only thing that was really cool about SBI were the Stats, but I can get those through Google and they are just as detailed, you just have to take the time to interpret the data.

Now if it works for that thats great, but I have a very large inventory didn’t work on SBI. Start looking at the sites that have large product lines, you’ll see that the stores are not part of SBI, but linked to SBI where these folks are putting out more money, when they are lead to beleive something totally different.

Dont even get me started on the rude ass bitches on the forums!

    :)

    • Seriously Looking says:

Thank you for your very candid and frank post. Since you are quite articulate in your explanations about SBI, I can’t help it…I have some questions which I hope you will take the time to answer. (given that you actually have the time) The first of which is whether you are currently maintaining your own SBI site. It would not surprise me if you were, and if so my inquisition comes with no malice intended what so ever, and I would even go so far as to applaud your integrity regarding the time it took to give these people correct answers that had some meat to them.

It seems to me that those that are really successful with SBI are somewhat of a closed community. It might be a result of really not having the time to answer the unbelievable amount of inquiries of thousands of people who just don’t know anything about the internet, yet are screaming for financial answers given the state of our economy.

I have to believe there are many, many people who are making money with SBI that are people of integrity, but also are people who don’t have the time to be in the fray when it comes to forums, because they make their money in providing e-books, information, and training material. So I am not here to bash SBI in any way. but I do understand there are people that have spent maybe the last bit of change they had to get involved with something that was doomed from the start because they were sold a bill of goods that couldn’t produce what they expected.

Having said all that, I am wondering if I really need to look somewhere else, or if perhaps SBI might be able to be nothing more than a glorified landing page designed to launch traffic somewhere else.

I am good at design, I know my way around Dreamweaver, but what I need is a landing page that is content rich, can get me to the top of the page in my market, get me some qualified visitors, then take them to the next page where I can sell them on whatever it is. Not necessarily a line of products, but more along the lines of services, and at least a small list of affiliates so I can generate some residuals.

One of SBI’s claims is SEO and the ability to drive traffic to your site. I don’t mind doing some homework and creative writing if what they say is actually doable from their interface. Obviously that is what it really boils down to. “Can what they say be done from their interface?” Can a person create a site that is specifically designed to generate lots of traffic that is intentionally redirected to the page where they “sign-up” so to speak?

In your opinion (you’ve earned my respect) is it worth an annual $300 (which is pennies for any profitable business), or is there a better way to generate the traffic? Particularly if I am looking to generate most of my visitors from a given list of zipcodes.

      Thanks

  12. Laura says:

Wow, yes I see now. Your right I couldn’t understand how you would have a great e commerce site without having to build a million sell buttons etc. I see your point, I understand. I guess it would be really good for those making money though adsense, affiliate links, ebooks etc. Stuff like that. Thanks for the information though it is helpful!

  13. lisontap says:

THANKYOU!!! This is the factual information I have been looking for. I have a sitesell site i will cancel. It isn’t working because I’m no SEO star but it has taught me a lot.

I think they do some good things but the feel is of a fundamentalist religion not an online product. Definitely no asthetic sense.

Problogger.com has good tips on how to do a similiar thing, without all the hype. I guess I’ll have to get someone to put up a wordpress site and go from there.

It would be great to have sitesell with more visual taste and less hokey hype. Any ideas where to look??

    Thanks, Lis

    • Laura says:

Hey lisontap, what are you trying to start up with your website? Selling hard goods? E goods? I have site build it and it’s working great with me so far. My site is on drumming and it has a lot of potential. We were just talking about how site build it doesn’t seem to work if you have a lot of hard goods to sell, so what are you planning on doing with your future website? That way I can help think up somethings that might fit.

  14. Curt says:

SBI says content , content, content. I have a site that looks rather amateurish but people don’t come for the view…they come for the content and my pages rank very high in the search results and the information presented is appreciated by my visitors.

Not once has somebody complained about my website simplicity.

The only scam is people bashing SBI before trying it or not following the recommended page structure.. Getting found takes time or lots of money. SBI tells you upfront it is not a fast process.

I love SBI and would recommend it to anybody with something substantial to say. Otherwise follow the advice of the OP and make a nice “all show, no go” website that nobody will ever visit. and your “experts” chisel away all your money for SEO rankings.

  15. Laura says:

I agree with Curt. I am following it and it is working for me. My site is around 7 months old and is now with 50 average visitors a day. My traffic is usually in between the 70’s-90’s now which I think is cool. Better than that, my traffic is all organic, I haven’t paid for any of this traffic other than the $300 from SBI. My friend whose site is a bit older than mine just put up his adsense and made his first $40 in the 6 weeks that it’s been up. It’s not no get rich quick thing but it sure is working for us. I do hope it works for you guys or who ever else is interested.

  16. Heather says:

So what other sites would be a good alternative to Site Built It? Ones that generated the traffic without paying for it.

  17. lisontap says:

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for the helpful info and, yes, still not sure what is a good alternative to site sell. I also know people that love it but it’s not for me. Main reason being the oversell and an intuitive feel that something is amiss. There is a similiar alternative – dang – can’t remember the name but it is also very ugly and ‘oversells’. Cheaper than sitesell. A ‘Thesis’ theme wordpress site sounds like it has solid SEO and freedom to move. I’m stuck for a while with sitesell simply because i don’t have time to copy all the pages over. Good luck to sitesell sites but not for me. I’d rather learn a method that is not quite so fundamentalist and encourages freedom and other points of view. ‘problogger’ has some good tips as wellas this site.
    Enjoy your netting!

Almost my entire site ranks top 10 in Bing . I have 11 top 5 in Google and many more top 10’s.
I am outranking bigger and longer established players. If you can find better for less money please let me know.

Not sure why you want an alternative to proven results. Everything about sbi is geared to “overdelivery” of content. If that is fundamentalist religion then I am all for it.
Of course, if your air is to under deliver…then an alternative may be a better idea.

For somebody like myself with zero knowledge of web site building and no time to learn, SBI is a steal at 300 bucks.

I have another site at network solutions and to get similar tools as SBI would cost me about $1500/yr.

  19. Laura says:

We get all the tools all in one for basically $25 a month, I think it’s a steal. That’s way less than I use to eat out with every month. So far I have totally been impressed with the over delivery and help from SBI. I am a college student and it really has been working for me. My traffic has grown so much. I wouldn’t lie to you guys, but SBI is honestly great. If you can find all that SBI offers for less then shoot me the URL. But I am really satisfied with my customer service and tools fo shizzle.

True dat! At least we hear from all sides ya know? It’s good to do that. It will be interesting. So is it the price that you don’t agree with SBI? Meaning you could really get it cheaper somewhere else? Or is it something else

Oh thank you so much! I really wish that I had the monetary resources right now to get professional drum mics and a mixer. I want to turn my room into a recording studio:) Actually I am working on a video right now for a visitor who wanted a tutorial on Green day! Have your son get the free drum lessons I have on the free drum lessons page, it’s one of my Tier 2’s:) There are 4 lessons.

I watched the 21 Guns tutorial too, nice work on the “padiddles” on the snare… is that what they are called? :) (I am a sax player, so drums are foreign to me)
anyway, I personally like the fact that your vids are raw and uncut. that makes them more real and believable… you will find that with “video blogging” or “video marketing” that many times the way you present the content (your personality) is way more important than the quality of production. you also have a unique value proposition in the niche, that being that you are a girl drummer and you are young. (you mention the girl part in your about page so you know this already!) this value proposition makes you VERY unique… sheesh, I am writing my whole post here… I better stop…
anyway… My son was taking hard core lessons for 2 years but has since slowed down as freshman football is starting in a couple weeks. but he will be back at his kit soon enough I am sure.
I am going to use your site as an example in my next SBI post.. and I promise it will be all positive about what you are doing and I will also shoot a link or two to your site which will help boost your authority a bit… etc etc…
      AL

  25. Laura says:

haha thanks so much! I’d appreciate a link you know how links go with SBI. Wow your sons a freshman huh? I was thinking like elementary school! Pretty cool though, this vid I am making now is driving me up a wall ughh!! I sync the music onto my drumming and it’s so irritating at times. So how is your site doing? Is there something about it that is bothering you? I looked at it, it’s really nice!

    • Allyn says:

when I do vids and need to sync like music is in my ears like what you do, I yell the work “start” or “hey” at a certain point so I know where to link up. I use Magix Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus and it makes things easy.

If you are asking how my site bloggerillustrated is doing, well, it does great… but I don’t make money from it.
I have 300 or so others that I work with for money and they are up and down and all around. I shared this in my latest vid http://bloggerillustrated.net/changing-the-way-i-internet-market/

  26. Laura says:

    • Allyn says:

no, I have never built an SBI site. I am the guy that last year said SBI was bullshit and Ken Evoy is a egomaniac and condescending jerk. but I have since removed the video because I am a kinder, gentler marketer these days.. but this article you are commenting on is the one that contributed to all the controversy.

      • Curt says:

        Hi Allyn,

How can you possibly trash something you have never used?

Anyway…I hope everybody stays away from SBI, I don’t have any competition now and I’d like to keep it that way.

        • Allyn says:

Hi Curt, the same way you can defend SBI against other “methods” when you have never tried them.
You can’t see the video I did cuz I removed it, but long story short, you are like a guy who owns an auto-repair shop but can’t change the oil in his own car.
You own a site and all, but you have no clue as to how or why it is where it is, how it got there, or where it will go if Ken Evoy jumps ship and drinks a death koolaid.
you are reliant on others to keep your biz going, not yourself. that is dangerous, especially if you make a living at it someday.

          • Curt says:

Allyn, you are demonstrating total arrogance professing to know anything at all about me.
I am not defending SBI against anything but YOU, my friend.
Have I trashed any other service?? Have I mentioned or compared SBI to any other service?
You don’t know what I do with the site or why I have it and your speculation That I don’t know how it works is breathtakingly uninformed.

Preaching to me despite not knowing me or what I do is incredibly shortsighted, just like your scathing opinion of SBI of which you have no experience.

True, my main keyword only ranks 24 at Yahoo yet it is rising and it is my most competitive keyword. Consider this, the topic is not very popular and the audience is very small yet the income from this SBI site pays for SBI and my other site with about $500 net profit after expenses

Your personal attack is both unprofessional and uncalled for.. If thats your “kinder, gentler” side then good luck with anything you do.

        • LynnC says:

          Hi Curt,

I used SBI, but it ended up using my money and I never got anything out of it… worked on my site for several months and it was difficult for me to use. Fortunately, I’m only out $300, never renewed it. Not everyone has problems with it, but Allyn is right, what if SBI suddenly goes out of business? You have lost all of your hard work, your entire site, and are suddenly without the (infamous) “SBI Tools”. Better to build without SBI, learn the tricks of the trade for yourself. You’ll be glad you did. :)

  27. Allyn says:

and Curt, you don’t even rank for your primary keyword WTF? are you seriously thinking you are successful?
    Amazon out-ranks you!

    • Curt says:

The website is successful. Amazon.com is not my competition.

      • Allyn says:

Hi Curt, most of your arguments have been hashed out in the almost 300 comments above so read those if you like.
and if you thought I attacked you, man you are sensitive dude.
If I was gonna preach to you, it wouldn’t be about aquatic robots. In addition, you realize you are on MY site defending SBI? of course I am going to debate you… that is the beauty of blogging. (BTW-Ken Evoy despises blogs, and if he knows you are here, he will reprimand you, so be careful) … also, this blog is do-follow, meaning each comment you make is giving you a link to your site, and Ken is against that!

        I digress…
The point which you are not getting is that you don’t need a “service” to have a successful site that makes money. Relying on a service is dangerous and short-sited. and ranking and rising in Yahoo? big freaking deal… Google is where the traffic is my man. But you may rise slowly in Google because your site is laser focused on only a couple keywords and the algorithm doesn’t like that lately.

if my math is right, you are making abut $1100 per year from your site, or less than $100 per month. are you calling that a success?

        • Curt says:

Ranking and rising in Yahoo without paying? Huge deal! How arer YOUR yahoo search ranks?

I get tens of THOUSANDS of visitors from Google. I make just a little more than $1000 on 1% clicks and 90 percent of it comes between April and July.
My main keyword may be lagging at Google but I have great ranks on the tier two’s and three’s.

WILDLY successful! That is all the detail I will provide.

I could not have done this without SBI. I don’t have the time to fully learn the “craft” as you call it and neither do I wish to spend $2000/mo for “expert” advice.
The service is $25 dollars a month! That’s 85 cents a day. My morning coffee costs double that at 7-11.
The site was easy to build and the pages get very high search rankings.

Isn’t that the point?? Search rankings and traffic?

HOW I monetize is MY business and as such, is really irrelevant to this discussion

          • Allyn says:

LOL Curt.. you are outting yourself man. you don’t get tens of thousands of visitors from Google. Your niche is not big enough and you don’t rank with your 14 backlinks. I can see all the keywords you target, all of them (tier 2 and 3 is an SBI term, not an industry term, we call them “longtails”).
Tell you what, you prove to me you get “tens of thousands of visitors” to your site from Google… if you are telling the truth, i will give you $1,000

Hi Allyn, I think you are outing your self as well. Send me a fax number to send the traffic count. I believe you have my email. I will fax the SBI” TRAFFIC STATISTICS” page. I just printed a copy and is waiting to go.
Almost all of my traffic comes from Google.

I will include my mailing address for the $1000 check.
Yes Laura, I can’t wait to see if Allyn is full of BS too.

I have the traffic, does he have the $1000?

    • Allyn says:

      Curt,
a faxed page can easily be faked. your stats package must have a “read only” access point for SEO purposes. you need to give me read-only access.
I will send you my email addy. Yes, I have the $1,000 or I would not have made the offer.

AHH!!!! This IS So great!!! I am totally watching T.V in my head reading all of this and it’s so exciting! You guys are both smart, and now we have a nice high/fat money deal involved! I can’t wait to see outcome of the fax/email for your eyes only traffic stats! I have some good traffic stats for a young SBI site myself which is growing as well, but that’s not the point right now! Whoo hoo! I did read though that we can actually transfer the whole SBI site out of SBI, Ken wrote it, so maybe there is hope in case SBI did go down,, maybe ill pop the link up here later. Keep going guys!

  32. Curt says:

2 things, I will have to learn how to do a read only access point. In the meantime you are welcome to view the “adulterated” numbers.

Second, if all 300 of your urls are on average, as “unsuccessful” as my one, then you should be grossing $300,000.. a year. Given that your sites are MUCH more successful then you should be independently wealthy by now and 1k a literal drop in the bucket.

    • Allyn says:

      Curt,
I sent you an email so you have my addy.
When you grant the read-only access, it must show traffic stats by day/month/year and where the traffic came from (referral, search engine, direct) and by what means (like the keyword) so I can verify the traffic is Google and that it is organic. Remember, I want to see unique visits, not pageviews, though you can grant access to that part as well. These stats are readily available basic parts of Google Analytics, so I must assume that SBI provides similar stats to its members.
Looking forward to it, well worth $1,000.
If you want to scan your paper and send it, you can, you have my email.. but again, I need access proof.

and my 300 URLS are used for many purposes. Only a couple are monetized at this point. if you view my latest post on the front page, you will see why that is. Something tells me you have only seen this one single post.
      thanks,
      AL

  34. Laura says:

KENS ANSWER: Flat wrong. Any Webmaster can suck these pages and move them to another Web host. Like any other transfer, you would have to hook up forms, etc. But SBI! sites are completely movable.

And $300/year amounts to $25 per month, cheap for all that SBI! provides…

  37. Amy says:

I always found the SBI stats to be a great deal higher than what Google stated my stats to be. SBI gave an explanation somewhere in the forums, but I always found that to be suspect.

I have goolge tools and they corellate the SBI data.
Allyn, my keywords and the traffic they generate are not worth revealing for $1000.
This information is built on a daily basis and I will send a sanitized copy.
I had 32,000 unique visitors over the last twelve months. Most of this traffic comes from Google. I will not reveal the keyword results for any less than $10,000.00.

I saw your video and is nice to be able to place a face with your postings. If you search “Curt Applegate” ou can likewise see me in a photo for an interview with Dateline

  40. Bill says:

    Curt,

I think you are being greedy, and unrealistic.

    Allyn,

32,000 visitors in 12 months is less than 90 a day (and who’s to say some of those are not spider bots; SBI stats count all of them as well, if that is where his figures are coming from). Why didn’t you ask him for a timescale on his “tens of thousands” of visitors before you offered him $1000 if he could prove it?

  41. Laura says:

Your Google Analytics stats differ from your SiteSell stats because the latter record all visits to your site (including those from spiders and bots), whereas the former record only actual visitors who have javascript enabled in their browsers (which will be most of them).

The monthly unique visitors count differs from the total of the daily unique visitors counts because it doesn’t include repeat visitors during the month. This also accounts for the apparent discrepancy between the calculated average daily visitors figure and the average that many forum members calculate for themselves
