Ok, so in this one I talk about and give high praise to the Amazon affiliate program. I also drink a beer, like usual. But this time, do I actually finish the whole entire beer on video? Enquiring minds want to know…
Now just so you know guys, I didn’t show you too many specific items that I have sold on Amazon because that would reveal some of my targeted keywords, and as Vic says, it’s not a good idea to share all your sites with the public. That’s why I showed you two funky items that people purchased while browsing Amazon and my cookie was baking down dropped in their browsers. I did check and I actually sold 4 hammocks (not telling the exact kind of course) in 13 days as compared to selling NONE with Pepperjam over 18 months! Here is my PepperJam Review.
I will tell you that my best success with Amazon is as a product review or video “pitch man.” I basically get a product that is on Amazon and I do a video review of it and recommend it to readers then provide them a link. Then I rank my post #1 for the name of the item and the word “review.”
I very much plan to teach you guys how I make money video blogging as a pitch man, but I need to find time to do it right.
Here is the plugin you need to use Amazon on a Wordpress blog. Here is where you can sign up for the Amazon Affiliate program! Best of luck to you guys! Stay strong.
PS–I know I shot this vid a little “low.” I am still trying to learn all the best angles and such for vid blogging… so just bare with it, LOL

Allyn,
I’ve been thinking about doing some niche Amazon sites for awhile, you have motivated me to actually do it. Thank you.
When I saw the length of the video I was sure you would finish the beer this time.
A couple things..I’ve played with Amazon and little and made some money but I think you’ve motivated to not play but to take it seriously. Never thought about the dropped cookie….Also, thanks for the followup on PepperJam and the evidence about the hammocks. Your results after the switch just adds to the evidence that they are scamming.
Have a great weekend.
Yeah, maybe I need to change from eBay to Amazon, might even get reindexed. I’ve never made much on Amazon, so concentrated on eBay, not doing so well there now, maybe it’s time to switch back.
Love the vids.
Hey Allyn, hello from one wheat beer lover to another! I’m partial to Bell’s Oberon myself, with a thin slice of orange floating in the pounder glass. And back when I was still homebrewing, I made a fine wheat brew if I do say so myself.
Anyway, thanks for another entertaining video and for generously sharing some of your success tips. I’m fiddling around with Amazon, but your video has me fired up to push those sites a little more. Have a great weekend! -lorecee
Hi Lorecee and thanks for giving me a new beer to try. I will see if they sell it anywhere around here.
Yes it has been a long week but made some progress and had my first affiliate sale! That was exciting to see (actually happened a month ago but I didn’t check that site for a while until last night).
I like amazon too, and I have been using them for about 10 months now. Trust is the biggest factor when making a sale online.
What a coincidence, I’m drinking a Blue Moon here in Carolina with a sunburned face that my wife is bitching about not using sunscreen today and I clicked over and there you are enjoying one yourself. Good video as usual. Do you recommend an affiliate site combined with adsense or strictly one focus when you build your sites?
@steve
I have one very large niche blog that has adsense mixed with affiliate stuff and it does ok, but I don’t build them that way anymore. Adsense is good if people com in and click off quick. If you have a super high bounce rate, then adsense is what you want.
as far as outranking amazon itself,,, now you are thinking! Put it this way, if you search a specific product and amazon pages show up, you are in the money baby! It is very easy to outrank amazon pages… especially because I target “ginsu steak knives reviews” and “ginsu steak knives cheap/on sale”
I had one more question on my mind. When you push a product on Amazon are you eventually able to outrank Amazon for the product or is that your strategy?
Great post as usual Aalyn, Ive watched everyone so far, when your as big as Griz you will know I was here from the start hahahaa!!…
Are you eventually going to be building a backlink community at any point. or are you waiting for this Blogger illustrated community to grow? Hope you! thank again peace
@Scott
If I EVER get as big as Griz, I promise I will post more often than he does! LMAO!
I don’t think I will ever do any of the things that Griz does with niche support and such. He is a master of rallying people.
I just use this place to spout off and talk… I doubt it will ever be much more than that.
Big Al, I didn’t know you were an ebay reject too. LOL!
They accepted me, but then tossed me out for not listing enough (rationale irrational… LOL!).
Here’s my question. How does one do KW research for Amazon? On ebay it’s easy enough to check what has sold and what hasn’t. Or, do we just use the PM (prayer method) of marketing (ie, ya pray someone buys)? hee!
When you’re as big as Griz, I envision your lodge as having a large, primo lawn.
@Palmetto
LOL, a big ass lawn too!
FOr me, I just go look at what my friends and family have recently bought and then must assume that others have a need. It is so easy to rank for stuff that I hit big items (not like computers and stuff)
Vacuum cleaners are good and lawn and garden stuff, kitchen appliances.
All that stuff sells on amazon. I don some like Vic says where I target the EXACT model name and number and such…
Really, for me, the key is in doing a video review instead of a written. That is what sells it methinks.
Finally, I might go a little more generic with it sometimes too.
If I was doing a post on “blenders” I would focus my post title and links with the term “low priced blender reviews” or “discount blenders” and then I would just pick one from Amazon and tell everyone it is the best for the money. Of course, i go to Target and buy one, review it on the vid, and then return it! LMAO
how’s that for a long winded comment answer?
Thanks! That helps.
It’s a little disconcerting to venture in w/o the conversion data like ebay has. But if general knowledge says that there’s an interest in the item class like you said, it’s not exactly like working in the dark.
Well, unless it’s a two ton safe or something, where Amazon shipping cost would come into a buying decision.
Hi Allyn,
I completely agree about Amazon! They are by far and away the best converting affiliate I’ve ever used, and my Amazon sales have climbed steadily every month so far. Great post, and I’m in complete agreement – Amazon is the way to go!
Allyn,
Found your site through SEO Zombie. You said you like to do video reviews as it converts better. What type of camera do you record your videos on? Do you have mic equipment or just do the video and use the mic that comes with the camera?
@Medic
Welcome! I plan to give lots of details over the next few weeks of how I make money video blogging, but for now, I’ll let you know that I go very low tech and non professional. I have some great reasons for this, one of which is that I am ignorant and lazy, LOL but mostly just pressed for time.
I use a Kodak Zi6 hi def min cam and it works fine, not great, but it does the job for $160,
AL
Thanks. I like the video quality of that camera for what you are using it for.
Great video! I like being an Amazon affiliate just to see the stuff people buy. My latest sale was for diaper wraps, photo studio clips, and protein bars all ordered by the same person in the same order. And I don’t have affiliate links for any of those. Great fun.
You’re a very funny man Allyn
) And don’t go all Joe Pesci on me, I mean it in a good way!
Love your videos, I feel like I’m get an education in Internet Marketing and Entertainment rolled into one whenever I visit your site.
Keep up the good work!
Ric
Allyn, any thought about using video reviews in the real estate industry? Seems that every real estate professional is trying to use amateur SEO tools to get found on search engines, in some cases even for specific homes. The statistic that freaks them all out is that something north of 50% of consumers pick their real estate professional after doing only one google search, and pick the first person they happen to bump into online. This has the industry all worked up into a frenzy!
daltonsbriefs´s last blog ..Jobless Claims today
there is a ton of opportunity in video and homes, but not in the traditional “here is the living room” “here is the kitchen” type site.
It would need to be a gigantic local site that dominates every local keyword and has vids of every home hosted by someone with some personality.
It could be huge, but would take a ton of work… fun work, of course!
