Profiling James The InfoPreneur

Some of you may wonder what I am doing with this post. I need you to trust me, there will be a lesson and case study here. There will be a followup post about a week after this one that will relate back here. For now, check out this guy, The InfoPreneur.

Ok, so I am featuring a guy (I call him the Info Dude) who likes to drive website traffic, James, the InfoPreneur. If you read his posts, you will find that he is a pure blogger, not an internet marketer. He posts often twice per day! He’s very new in the blogging space and loves networking and social media. Most of that is NOT what I do or teach here on this blog. However, James has one thing that is incredibly inspiring to me, and it is something that no matter how hard I try, I can’t teach other people. That thing is DRIVE! James is a bulldog on a piece of meat; he’s stink on shiz, he is pure fire and fired up all at the same time. He will succeed because he won’t quit and I respect that greatly! It’s something that just can’t be taught, but I think some facets of it can be caught! …but you need to be around people like James in order to catch their fire… that is why I comment there often.

Below are some basic questions I asked him. Check it…

1) real name

James http://www.theinfopreneur.net/

2) age

29

3) what do you do in the real world for your job?

Drive Trucks, used to be a physical training instructor in the military for 10 years.

4) when did you start your blog?

October 27th 2009, 3 months ago

5) why did you start it?

Because I was sick of seeing the same information over and over again and had a pure passion for motivating people, PTI in the military I guess.

6) what is your goal? (money, fame, fun, friends) Have you made any money?

I want to start making a full time living from my online activity and achieve a book deal.

7) do you have any other sites/blogs

I have resisted the urge to start a few other sites, I have tons of ideas, but I know the site won’t do as well as it is now if I split my attention.

8) traffic stats

3,950+ unique visitors, 75,000 page views with 41,700 from spiders.

9) total search engine only visits by month

476 visit via search engines, with firefox being the top used browser.

10) number of posts on your blog

180+ posts with 3000+ comments, the most being 93 on one post.

11) main topic/focus of your blog

I guess it’s motivation and quick ways to drive traffic to your site or business.

12) give me a quote that inspires you

“Your past doesn’t determine your destination, just influences the way you travel.”
– There were times as kid I was homeless and had an abusive upbringing, i have no education and shoulnd’t be where I am, but here i am a dumb ass like me is doing it, that’s my motivation, to make sure my family never have to go through what I did.

13) what motivates you to continue your blog?

I work a 60hr week in my paid job, I want to be able to spend all my time with my family and make the future financially secure, plus I love it when I get great comments on the site, as someone with has no qualifications it’s great to hear people call me a writer.

14) best advice you have for newbies

Write and promote, write and promote.

15) 3 of your favorite posts on your site

The Shocking Truth, Treat Your Website as a Sniper Rifle and are you running too many websites?

16) who is your online mentor, why?

I have a few, I have been likened to Gary V in the way I work in the site etc, I actually quite like ’some’ aspects of David Risley etc. Instead of learning everything from one person I ’save and delete’ what I like from each person I come across and ignore the rest.

17) where do you see yourself in 2 years? 5 years?

Good question, All I know that in a years time I want to be working from home having been able to replace my current wages, with a book deal on the horizon. 2 years time?… retired, 5 years time? buying my first boat!

I would encourage many of you to head over and say “hello” to James and leave him a comment or 4. But before you do that, get my RSS feed so you can see the followup to this post and learn a little something about links. Stay tuned.

  1. Brother I can’t thank you enough for these kind words and no F’ bombs!

Seriously though if you or anyone needs any advice or inspiration just give me a shout, I’m not a ‘marketing guru’, now am I a web expert I just get in the mixer and get stuck in.

The only other way I can put it, is to jump in the deep end and learn to swim once you hit the bottom.

Looking forward to interacting with your follows and the follow up piece you do.

      Awesome post Allyn – Thanks!!

My biggest obstacle is motivation. Not because I don’t want this to work, because I do. Not because I don’t want to work hard, because I am an extremely hard worker. For me, working FT at a place that drains me physically and mentally, some days the idea of writing when I get home seems …well…difficult. I am a gemini, I love people, love excitement…I get PUMPED and do well with like minded people, but this is the first time in my life those like minded people are virtual. They are also inconsistent. Meaning, I keep in touch with some but its here and there. Not having someone, I guess you’d say, help be a physical cheerleader in my “real world” is not something i’m used too. I feed off energy.

Anywho, tangent there. I feel like this was the right post at the right time for me. I guess, i’m kind of a needy gemini right now lol. Some days I wish my significant other was into this so we could support and motivate each other, but this is the last thing hes interested in. So between you, griz, tka and now IP…I think my bases are covered.

Ray, have no fear, there is a HUGE internet marketing lesson to be learned here. Just need to wait a week! (But James is a helluva good dude anyway)

    • Rob Sellen says:

Getting big attention fast is one lesson here I think and it will interesting to see how it all pans out, in a year or so, there will some interesting lessons for all of us.

With the recent and hard to ignore transparency that seems to be happening and some of that is clearly down to the socialness of things, facache and twitter and the like, it’s making it so easy to say something and get it noticed…

That is effecting Internet marketing niche itself massively I reckon, R Healy’s post did a good job of showing that transparency is unavoidable.

As for getting attention, (should be easier now than ever) …

One thing I really keep thinking about is that truth in you only need “1000 true fans”… google it. ;)
The faster and better you do attract those fans the better.

Thinking outside the “internet marketing” circle is a good thing.

Monetising is not everything, but hey, another thing, it’s not likely you will be looking or asking on the right blog, what I mean is, where you think people make money is often not where they really make money.

You assume James has to monetise that blog he has.
People won’t tell you where and how they make it for real, niches etc.. why would they?

OK – three might be to do No. 2, but have a little bit of “niche-ness” about you. 40. Hello there allyn and the info dude!

Ive been like a silent crocodile under the water for some time now, studying all your posts(and grizzlys, +some lissowerbutts and others in the griz club) like ive never studied in my life. Gotta say thanks to all that teaching + humor!

Anyway, this post made me come out of my nutshell because it somewhat defies what grizzly is teaching. It will be interesting to see how the blog does in the future in terms of traffic and income without seo.

I dont have that much experience, but if you put seo theory aside for a moment, you realise that all seo is, is targeted visibility – Find a way to get visibility in a consistent manner and cost-effective way, and you’re in business. Maybe in the mmo niche the time it takes to write one ezine article is probably not worth as much as leaving 10-15 comments within that time. Maybe that the 10 comments written on 10 different seo’d pages that bring targeted traffic + ”the social media benefit” are worth more than that one ezine.

Just some theories. And to the infopreneur, your name is not new to me, I recount hearing that sometime ago but don’t remember where… probably in comments where you must have good visibility within the mmo niche. And to the fact that you’re english/british or english well I have big respect for that nation, makes me proud that I’m white. I wish you the best of luck for the future.

@t Allyn hane – have you ever seen in your analytics data people find your site via the keywords ”master of my own domain” ? I have a pretty bad memory, and often times when I want to find your site, I type in bloggerlens.com , only to find out that it’s not your site but the one of your friend. Then I remember the ”master of my own domain” phrase, type it up in google, and that’s how I find your blog!

Also looks like the big beer blog dosent exist anymore, maybe there weren’t good ways to monetize that… I might have missed that in the 3-4 posts that I haven’t read… well anyway cheers and good luck to both
