I have noticed in my corporate job that weak managers lead by fear. This causes employees to go into “cover your ass” mode and the business suffers. I have also seen many internet marketers who live in fear of Google and go into the same pattern.

I hope you all who are stuck working in a job that robs you of your life can relate, and maybe find some encouragement along the way!
Make this a great and productive weekend guys.

On a related blogging note… my friend Lis is stirring up a tussle over a similar issue: Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway

  1. I think what I am noticing a lot of is that people want certainty if I build 2.5 blogs over 3.3 distinct IP addresses and add 11.4 posts each with 5.2 tags each and 3.1 categories when will they be indexed ? And will I need 10.3 or 11.4 backlinks each to get to #1 place ! And will Google still love me?

As you say stuff happens – live with it – the more sites you have the less it matters. There has been some absolutely hilarious commentary over at hubpages recently with the Court 100 hubs/30 days challenge – even though the Hubpages marketing guy got into big time (I’m sure his bonus is looking this month) – 906 hubs in 4 days later (thats just the ones using the official tag there are probably lots more) and people are worried that Google “wont like” all this new “spam” – yeah all that focused unique content is gonna be real bad!

Thanks for the link – I think you just read my controversial posts :-)

Allyn, I can relate exactly to what you are talking about here (about the corp world)

I work for a finance (lending) company and recently there were some layoffs, and a bunch of branches closed. But about a month before that, my manager’s boss’ boss (A guy that looks over 50 branches) sent an email to all the managers and district managers saying that if we don’t do X, people will be fired! yes, fired! I thought it was hilarious the way he was so fearful. I told that to my dad and he immediatly told me that was the worst way to get production.

Hit the nail on the head with this post…..The other which really pisses me off with management in this way is that it is normally via email. Never face to face, by email which is the worse thing ever. Talk to your staff, get them on your side.

    It rocks!

With regard to the big G, why do you suppose they gave BANS the boot? BANS sites were connecting buyers to the thing they were searching for, and yet G has effectively banned BANS.

Great points Al. I have seen many managers actually afraid to make a decision because they don’t want to get in trouble so instead they just do nothing. Also you are so right about working hard and not wasting time. By the way. Why are you sitting in your car?
