Internet marketers have been making money for years by writing product reviews. It is one of the simplest ways to make money on the net. And I say that video blogging product reviews are even better, watch the vid:
Ok, so here is the idea:
You do video reviews of stuff you use/like/have/buy and then sell that same stuff through your affiliate links. Simple, I know, but do you know of anyone doing this using vid?
Frank over at OpTempo does great product reviews in the old fashioned written style. He is very good at it and uses mostly the Ebay program to monetize the site. Here is an idea of how he writes his titles in this post: Lexmark Multifunction Printer Review
See how detailed that is? It will be much easier to rank for that very very longtail keyword! I would also venture a guess and say that someone looking for “reviews” of that printer, may be in the market to buy a printer!
Now imagine doing that same review with video! That is powerful.

Allyn,
I’m new to this video stuff, so thanks for the tutorials.
Knowing that backlinks win the day, a couple of the questions I would have as you make these videos is, in what ways does building backlinks to your video review differ from the traditional backlink methods, such as ezine, goarticles, support sites, etc. since it’s video and not written?
Also, do you write a 50-100 word post to help google understand what your video is about or is the product specific title give google all the info it needs about the video?
Thanks
Thanks Allyn,
Unfortunately, Internet video isn’t something I’m interested in doing. I simply don’t have the flair for it like you and Vic. I’m a pretty dull public speaker.
I’m also a very private person by nature and I hate the idea of even having a still photo of me out on the Internet, much less a video. Family is even lucky to get me on video since I usually manage to be behind the camera. I cleverly managed to avoid having my picture on the company Christmas card too.
Another thing that concerns me is the amount of ‘futzing’ around creating videos. I’ve done audio for the Internet when I was playing guitar a lot and I’d spend a lot of time getting that good enough to upload. I just don’t have that kind of time available now. How much time do you spend doing your videos?
And, of course, you also hit on another thing, keywords. A long article is going to have a lot of long tails while Google doesn’t know anything about what you said in a video unless you take the extra time to do the video and an article or transcription.
@Frank
Man, I sure hope you didn’t think I was saying anything negative about your site or your methods! I was just pointing out your site as one of the better review sites out there.
I totally understand where you are coming from with the privacy. I just happen to be the opposite: I have no shame! LOL
And, yes, doing the vids takes longer, much longer, but I kind of enjoy doing it.
@medic
Frank mentioned alittle about what you said as well and here are my thoughts on that. I believe that if I write one sentence using the keyword as well as put the keyword in my tags and also in my post title and draw keyword anchored links to the post, that will be enough to rank well.
I build links to the post that contains the vid, just like any other written post.
I may be naive, but I believe that a vid post offers just as much content as a written post both in the eyes of Google and in the eyes of the humans.
) have showed this to be true.
My thought is that if my site answers the question posed by the searcher, then I will win out in the end. My own vid sites (I have a few
One last thing: With vids, there is no dup content issue…EVER.
I have to say that getting your wife to call you at that exact moment was well timed! Just kidding, but the video guy in me says that made for an awesome ending to your video the way you transitioned out at “Hey baby”…good stuff!
I couldn’t agree more with your video. I have made a ton of buying decisions based on video reviews. I always will. I have watched many of your reviews and what you do, and I think is important, you make the video about the product and not the presenter. I recall seeing one that you made where you and your camera were actually laying in the grass to make a point. Probably the only one of it’s kind I’ve ever seen.
Speaking of “Bombastic”, have you ever used that word in one of your videos before? For example, when you watch a TV commercial with Billy Mays screaming at you, I find it hard to pay attention to the product he’s selling. I’m yelling back at the TV in my own Billy May’s voice trying to get a laugh out of my wife. I totally forget he’s selling putty that will glue a wing back on a 747.
I always look for video reviews first and then written articles.
